This was a new life for Fury.It had been decades since some part of his life wasn't dealt with in a SHEILD uniform and involving him either giving an order or taking an order. He'd long forgotten how good it felt to just sit in a little rinky dink restruant like this with a good burger and smoke.
Yet he knew the time was coming soon where he wouldn't be enjoying this little life. He knew what was brewing-he didn't have to be on the inside to know what was going on in the inside.
Fury looks over at an elderly man and his wife watching the small screen tv attached to the wall. Scenes from the Stamford incident were being played. The man frowned seeing the footage-"Back in my day heroes were heroes. Look at those boys there-damn tv."
The words hit Fury hard-he too once tried to fight the good fight-fight it the right way.
The older woman replied to her husband, " Those weren't heroes Teddy-the heroes were the ones who were there afterwards, dissappointed in themselves for not being where they should have been."
Those words hit Fury even harder. Maybe had he been in SHEILD he could put a stop to this reality show madness. Maybe had he not pulled peoples strings the way he had he wouldn't be villianized the way he is now. All he wanted was to protect this country-somewhere along the lines he got lost. How much do you keep from the country before you do it more harm than good.
Fury's cell phone goes off-it settles in his stomach metal in water.
"Yeah," Fury says in a husky covered voice. "What?" Furies voice gets noticble louder-attracting the attention of a few costumers. "Hold on a sec."
Fury drops a $20 on the table and notions to the waitress to keep the change before heading out.
"Already-damn it. This is exactly what they're wanting. The heroes at each others throats. And Captain american leading the revolt. Great- this is just F******* great."
Fury pauses for a moment. "Where's Stark. Alright-I'm goignt o have to step in. This is getting out of hand way to quickly. And do me a favor, find me Steve Rodgers."
