Shadowcat from Kitty's apartment
Bloody Mary orders got real old real quick. What supprised Kitty was how little talk there was about the brewing civil war. Were they ignorant? Or indifferant? There was a bit of a lul in the action when Kitty was approached by a man in red.
"Good evening, Miss..."
"Hi. Let me guess. Bloody Mary?" Kitty sighed.
"Thank-you, no. Just a little chat, Miss. Pryde."
He knew her. Did she know him? WAs he in one fo her classes?
Flynn's voice lowered as he leaned in. "Or do you prefer Shadowcat?"
THAT got her attention. Who was this guy? Friend? Foe? Play it cool for now. "I AM due for a break. There someplace quiet we can talk?"
"I know a coupple rows of video poker tight as they come. We can talk there. Just follow me."
Hey! T! I'm goin' on break. Cover for me will ya?" Kitty called to the other bartender as she left.
A minute later, Kitty was seated at a video poker machine bracking for whatever dire information this man who knew her secret identity was about to put forth. "So, what is it you wanted to talk with me about, Mr....?"
"Flynn Ryan, Miss. Pryde." The rEd King introduces himself.
Flynn Ryan! the owner of the Inferno. THe Hotel/Casino where the Vegas Belles of Hell was located. How did HE know...? "How...?" Kitty started.
"The superhumans, as I'm sure you know, are bracing for a civil war. Not that there's realy anything civil about war, but that's the term used when infighting breaks out on such a scale."
"Go on."
"You're an inteligent girl, you can see where this is going to eventualy lead. You have a friend form such a future where this regestration held sway."
This guy knows WAY too much to be just some bussiness tycoon. "I hope you don't concider this too foward of me, Mr. Ryan, but just how is it you know so much?" Kitty inquires dreading the answer she can almost hear. Where better place for them than a Casino called the Inferno?
"I'm with the Hellfire CLub, Miss. Pryde. DaCosta's Hellfire Club." Flynn is quick to clarify. THe Lord Imperial had warned him that the Club had a history of bad blood so to speak with the X-men. Best to get his name out as soon as possible.
Kitty's eyes predictably narrowed. Hellfire Club. But Berto's Hellfire Club. No gurentee, but it would buy this guy a little more time. "And what do you want from me?" To the point.
FLynn pulls form his pocket a leathery deck of playing cards. sliding from the top, he lays out two sets or royal flushes. Spades and Diamonds. "As you well know, Kathrine, the old guard in New York, Shaw and company."
"Emma." Kitty scouls.
"Yes, Miss. Frost and the sort. Their lot was murder and greed." Flynn sweeps away the cards dealing a near Identical set. This time of Hearts and Clubs. "The Lord Imperial is looking to dominate the Club with a more compassionate class. Ones with the good forutne of all mankind in mind."
"Oh REEEALY?" Kitty couldn't hide her skepticism.
"Personaly, I sence something big just over the horizon, Miss. Pryde. You think the recent mutant explosion is coincidance? If mutants are the next step in evolution, why is there SO much diversity in mutant trates? They arn't the next step, they are but the foot in the air searching for solid ground. If the Classics have their way it will be suicide for all mankind. Maby not today, maby not tomorrow, but years, even decades from now when the new man must stand ready to face a great challange."
"How do you know all this? Are you a precog?"
"An elemental. From time to time through out history the Earth has endowed cirtain individuals with great power. Bonding them to a specific elemental or life force..."
"How do you know you're not just a mutant?"
"mutant power is dependant on the genetic stucture of a body. I am not. I can drop a body here and travel through the Red across the world and form a new one good as new. If nothing else, that separates me from general mutants."
"And what is it you want from me?" Kitty askes skepticaly.
"Your help in eliminating doubt."
"Eliminating doubt?"
"Yes. Those of us on the inside once properly placed can squash things such as the regestration act before they get started."
"You want me to join the Hellfire Club." Kitty was stunned and speachless. Politics was to be her career of choice. The connections would be invaluable to say the least of this man was genuine. But was she ready to plunge into the headonistic madness that the CLub represented? "I - I don't know hwat to say. I need time. To think." Kitty stammers.
"The Inferno is hoasting a very exclucive masquerade ball Halloween night." Flynn offers extending two fingers, the Queen of Hearts card forming between them. I would hope to see you there."
Kitty takes the card sliding it down the sleeve of her glove. "I'll... I'll think about it. I actualy have plans for the night out at Blood Mansion, but I'll think about your offer. Thankyou, Mr. Ryan." Kitty gets up to leave.
"Call me Flynn." The REd King smiles.
"Right. Bye, Flynn." Kitty turns heading back to work.
