mutant-generate subzero freezing energies that cool and condense the moisture in the air into malleable ice structures, rapidly lowers his body temperature to transform into an organic ice form with enhanced strength, durability, and the ability to increase his mass, reshape his body's ice structure, and rebuild his body from damage.
According to the laws of thermodynamics, cold is defined as the absence of heat, and therefore there is actually no such thing as "cold." Therefore, Iceman cannot emanate cold, but rather must absorb or dispel heat. Since heat is energy, Iceman's power then becomes a psionic ability to manipulate energy.
Iceman is able to lower his body temperature without harm to himself, reaching -105F within a few tenths of a second. He is able to freeze any moisture in the air around him into unusually hard ice to form ice-slides and various projectiles and shields. He is also able to summon moisture from the air and create a flood. He did this against the Juggernaut.
Iceman is immune to sub-zero temperatures. Iceman has thermal vision: the ability to detect objects visually by how much heat the objects generate.
Over the years, his mutant physiology has gone through radical changes. First, he was able to fashion an armor of densely packed snow around his human form when lowering his temperature; later, this became armor of solid ice. Eventually, he was actually able to transform his body into organic ice in which his strength and endurance were augmented to enhanced levels, but when he turned his body back to normal, he would be an ordinary human.
History/Background:
Robert Louis Drake was born in Long Island, New York to William Robert and Madeline Beatrice. When Robert hit puberty, he started to manifest his powers. He was constantly feeling cold and shaking, until he managed to keep it under control. [X-Men Forever #3] He was on a date with a girl named Judy Harmon when they were attacked by the town bully, Rocky Beasely, and his gang. While the others held Bobby back, Rocky tried to force himself on Judy. To stop him, Bobby encased Rocky in a block of ice, revealing his mutant powers in front of others.
That night, Scott Summers blew a hole through the wall of the jail and offered Bobby a place in the newly-formed X-Men team. Bobby rudely declined and the two began to battle when the mobs arrived and attacked the young mutants again. Professor Xavier stepped in, psionically freezing the mob in place. With a limited amount of convincing, Xavier persuaded Bobby to join the X-Men.
During his original stint with the X-Men, Drake pursued a relationship with Lorna Dane, but it did not last long. Iceman was among the X-Men captured by Krakoa. He left the X-Men shortly thereafter. For a short while, he moved to Los Angeles and became a founding member of The Champions.
After the Champions dissolved, Drake retired from life as a superhero to earn a college degree in accounting. He returned to full-time superheroing in an incarnation of the Defenders alongside his former teammates from the X-Men, Angel and Beast. After the Defenders disbanded, Drake embarked on his career as an accountant.
The original X-Men, including Iceman, were then reunited to form the superhero team X-Factor. Along with his teammates, he later rejoined the X-Men.
Iceman suffers from a chronic poor self image and is a classic under-achiever. Bobby's use of his powers has often been lazy and undisciplined. Iceman often played the part of the joker, which annoyed Professor Xavier and Cyclops. Iceman has never realized the true potential of his abilities and even went through a period of deep depression after Emma Frost, the former White Queen of the Hellfire Club, took over his body and used his powers at levels which Iceman himself had generally been unable to reach. The White Queen believed that Iceman had the potential to be one of the most powerful mutants on Earth.

"You ok Leah? Bobby looked back and smiled, remembering when they had spent time together one morning for breakfast. "Nervous huh? yeah, the brood is not joke, but I am here, itll be ok." Bobby didnt want to play favorites, but he did have a certain relationship with Leah and wanted to see her safe, though, he couldnt really act like that towards her when his other teamates were just as important. "Yeah almost, and Flame, your here because the Brood dont deal with Fire much. You and Firely are our main weapons. Our protection."
Don't worry we will be there in a second, as soon as I find a place to land hahaha Echo, be cool they just......oh nuts, hang on." Bobby grabbed the controls and pulled hard to the left as he dodged a blast from one of the large Brood members. "They spotted us, im taking evasive action." Bobby then pushed down on then controls as they began to get swarmed by the Brood, a t least 3 dozen all blasting, as some hit, and rocked the ship. "This aint good."
