Nick Fury, the eldest of three children born to an American pilot who died in battle during the final year of World War I, grew up in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. He enlisted in the Army with the start of American involvement in World War II, rising quickly to the rank of sergeant. In the European Theater of operations, Fury led the Howling Commandos, a band of soldiers made famous by their foolhardy but brave combat style.
Fury remained on active duty through the Korean War, during which the Howlers were reunited for a special mission that garnered Fury a battlefield commission and promotion to second lieutenant. Fury spied for the French government in Viet Nam in the 1950s, earning him the rank of colonel and eventually a full-time appointment to the CIA. After several years with the CIA, he became director of the newly organized international-espionage organization S.H.I.E.L.D.
Fury's leadership saw the organization through countless crises and was instrumental in thwarting major threats to world freedom. As S.H.I.E.L.D. grew to the vast international network it is today, regional directors and subversives within the organization began to undertake questionable operations without Fury's authorization or knowledge. Former agent Barbara Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird, was pivotal in revealing to Fury the corruption within S.H.I.E.L.D.
In the 2005 "Secret War" crossover, Nick Fury launched a covert assault on the leadership of Latveria, who were plotting a massive attack on America. One year after the assault, the Latverian forces launched a counter-attack, which resulted in Luke Cage being hospitalized, Fury's friendship with Captain America becoming strained, and Fury being removed as S.H.I.E.L.D. commander and forced into hiding, with numerous international warrants out for his arrest.

I've done a whole lot of things in my life-alot of which I'm not proud of-even fewer I can see myself doing differently though. Sometimes you have to do things dirty to get things done. Things get messy-and nobody likes to get messy. Where I come in-I've always done the dirty work for SHIELD. Though judging by the politics bouncing around before I left-maybe they're the ones doing the really messy work.
And that's something I've learned over the years-things ain't always so black and white. That's America's problem-they still see in black and white-right and wrong. Maybe it could but people's politics get in the way and the next thing you know you have a war-or a battle, or some cheap governor running for president.
I've heard the rumors-about the new law coming into motion. Each side is gonna make valid points. What neither of them know is that they are both right-and they are both wrong. BUt neither one of them have the same interest they need to have. Not the interest I would have. This isn't about the American citizens.
It's about politics.
