It is a dark time in Earth's history. The Shi'ar, formerly an ally of Earth, has turned on it. The reason for this is the death of Lilandra Neramani and most of the old Imperial Guard. Deathbird hatched a deal with the conquered Kree race to overthrow her sister. They destroyed Chandilar itself with the use of a Nega-bomb. Deathbird decided to get rid of Earth and it's guardians. To achieve this, she has formed an alliance with the Skrull as well and launched a combined attack on the home of the human race.
The Earth's guardians fought fiercely but it wasn't enough. The X-men were wiped out first because of the ties they had with Lilandra. After the first surprise attack the Shi'ar launched a full out invasion with the Skrull. The members of all of Earth's superhero's teams fought back. The Inhumans and Eternals both led the first wave and reaped mass damage on the invading fleets before they were slaughtered by the enemy ships. The combined forces of the Avengers, Alpha Flight, the Russian superhero team Winter Guard and the Japanese Superheroes Big Hero 6 met the ground invasion full on.
The hero's shone in their defense but it was in all in vain. Red Guardian and Captain America died fighting side by side against the invading forces. Loki used the distraction of the Alien fleet to defeat and kill his half brother Thor. Iron Man and War Machine fought using highly experimental armor, and were slain in their attempt to drive off the enemy and protect the planet. Hulk was released and disappeared into the wild after tearing apart a large portion of the alien army. The rest of the Avengers and the other teams were wiped out except for a few. After the first wave the surviving heroes all went into hiding.
They have now organized a resistance to liberate Earth. The people have one hope amongst all the despair. The Super Soldier formula was derived from Captain America's blood. The World has united to create a team of heroes to beat back the Alien. The times have called for desperate measures. The times have called for the Avengers Reassembled.
