We have Breaking news in which threatens to dramatically overhaul our society. We have just recieved word that the mutant communities around the world have been decimated due to an unknown event some mutants are calling "M-Day."
Across the world, many hundreds of thousands of mutants have just lost their Mutant X-Gene which allows them to perform incredible feats. Scientists are baffled and the mutants themselves have no idea why it happened. It simply seems that one moment these mutants had their powers and the next they were regular human beings.
Alrady religious fundamentalist groups, most notably the Reverand William Stryker, are calling this God's vengeance wreaked on mutants. Already top geneticists are working on this and leading mutants are sed to be dismayed. There are now estimated to be less than five hundred left of a race which only yesterday boasted numbers in the millions.
Among those mutants who have been confirmed depowered are former terrorist Frederick "Blob" Dukes and former X-Men now said to have been dropped, Polaris and Jubilee. The Xavier Institute for Mutants is said to be providing refuge for those mutants who retain their powers, and refuse to confirm or deny that the Institute's founder, Charles Xavier, has gone missing.
Theories for the depowering range from the aforementioned "Work of God" to ravings by some that reality itself was altered by a mutant to bring about an alternative world and then altered back, but as no known mutants are this powerful, this has been treated with extreme scepticism. Reports also say that former Terrorist the Scarlet Witch is still missing...
Regardless, it seems that Mutants have gone overnight from being a minority to a virtual cult.
