Shaw was seated at Tony's desk watching the proceedings in the other room with intrest. After the incident with the New Warriors, talk of regstration had been a heavy toppic at the Hellfire Club... at all levels. Tony had agreed to let Shaw watch the proceedings from his office, not wanting Shaw's presance, that of what many wtill concider a villan, to be a disruptive influance.

Infighting. the self proclaimed heros at eachother's throats. And a good number of them stored on a single government datta base. That information could be QUITE valuable now that it has been collected. And efforts must be set underway to obtain a copy before the opposition wins in the end. So many secret identies so many secrets. So much money to be made from blackmailing and selling to the right people.

Echo knocked once on the door, then turned the handle and pushed it slightly open, gesturing as if to ask if she could come in.
It wasn't rude, if you knew her, because of her deformity, but if you didn't, it would have seemed quite odd. She watched Shaw's face intently.

The knowk drew Shaw out of his contemplation. Turning, he saw a fine young woman with an odd palmprint across her face motioning is she could come in. Always eger for the company of such a woman, Shaw smiled. "Hello. Come in. Is there something you want?"

"No, I was just looking for Stark..." She examined his face curiously. "But I guess the question could be asked... Who are you?"
The man had long, drak grey hair that was tied back in a ponitail, and his eyes were dark, black most likely, as far as Echo could tell. Never seen him before in her life.
"Just wanted to ask him if he's happy about the new law." Her face revealed an odd expression, like anger, for just a second, but then it was gone.

"Sebastian Shaw. Head and founder of Shaw Indurtrial. I'm a ... social and bussiness associate of Mr. Stark's. And you?" Something odd about her voice. Shaw coudln't quite place the accent... than it hit him. Deaf. THat would explain her odd mannerisms. Why she stared at him when he talked. "I can't speak personaly for Tony, but I assure you, Miss. This is for the good of the community. This way the likes of Speedball can get the training in power and judgement they need to be a bennifit to society... rather than a threat." Shaw illuminates slowly and clearly.

"Maya Lopez... Nice to meet you. This is going to anger more people, not just the humans and mutants that want this passed. Everything is going to crumble, and Stark is going to have a huge pile of dung in his lap."
She saw realization dawn on his face, then shook her head, smiling a bit ruefully. "Been this way for a while. I'm deaf, Mr. Shaw, not stupid."
She continued. "I believe something should have been done... but not the way they did it. Pushing a huge law on the public in such a short amount of time... It's the makings for havok. Not to mention it being one of the most heated topics in our system, now..."Maya trailed off.

"No law makes everybody happy, Miss. Lopez. Politicians, for all the grief they are given, are elected to serve the public intrest. When public oppinion is inflamed, it is incumbant on them to act quickly. For what it's worth, while I havn't read the bill it's self, I feel quite cirtain provisions have been placed for it's poitential experation should public opinion sway in the other direction." Shaw turns his chair looking out the window at the sunset. As the sun set on the age of secrets... for those with out the proper influance. It rose on a new day for those with proper clout. Temporary or not, the names would be gathered. Identities revealed. Thre would be no undoing that. The self-righous heros would be their own undoing.

She nodded, though very slightly, as if to herself. "It might just do that... But chances are, and by what I've seen already, one wrong touch of the scales and..." She tilted her head meaningfully. "But if Stark and his colleages are skilled enough in this area, it might be pulled off, at the risk of sounding like a hypocrite."
"But what of the ones who dont register? Not just the rebels... the disabled, the ones not able to understand the importance of this, kids..." She watched him shrewdly. "Just because we're mutants doesn't mean we can't have... illnesses. You know that, Mr. Shaw."

As the sun dips behind the cityscape, Shaw turns back around. "The act is big news, Miss. Lopez. Soon regestering superhuman abilities will be like regestering for the draft. There will be no excuse for not knowing. Those caught unregestered from the mightiest mutant to the lowly tech genious adding repulsor rays to a medical device will be given the choice of jail or regestering voluntarily. "

"Soon, but not immediately. Just jail? I heard that resistors will be shot down." She sighed and turned away from him, inspecting a picture on the wall.
((sorry, i'm totally brain-dead today XD))

"We all hope it won't come to that." Shaw relents as he positions himself in such a way as to have both their refections vissable in the glass covering the painting. "But those who resist arrest or regestration need to be brought down by whatever means neccicary . BEFORE there's another Stamford."

Echo didn't say anything more, but kept her eyes on the picture, her eyes flicking, every now and then, to the reflection of Shaw sitting at his desk. She personally knew many people who would resist the Act, and one of them would surely hold their two kids from registering, too. What then?

"Of course, on the side of the cons, there's the fact that we're entrusting identity files with a government that can't secure simple files on old war vetrans from common burglers. who's to safe guard the information from empowered types who might take advantage of such potentialy volital information?"

She nodded. "Even if you could find someone willing to do it, how could you be sure they were completely trustworthy? And of course, if they were mutant, humans would complain... same with the way around." Echo pursed her lips. "But its not like the system now is at its best."
