Name: Peter Benjamin Parker
Alias: Spider-Man
Age: Peter is in his early thirties.
Gender: He is male.
Side: He is currently siding with Iron Man, unaware that he is actually being manipulated, and has doubts about the Registration Act. It is speculated that he may switch sides as the war elevates.
Appearance: Peter, as a child, was a wiry boy with unkempt brown hair and a frame that looked like it could break at any time. Bullied and abused at school, he was often bruised and his large round glasses broken. As his powers emerged, however, his thin stature was replaced by moderate weight and unnoticable, but still bulging muscles. His hazel hair is currently short-cropped.
Height: Peter is five feet ten inches tall.
Weight: His weight is unknown.
Eye Colour: His eyes are a deep brown.
Hair Colour: His hair matches his eyes.
Mutation/Powers: Spider-Man has the ability to adhere to any smooth surface using any part of his body. With this, he is able to support something many times his own weight while clinging to a hard vertical surface such as the side of a building. It follows that he can grip an object with any part of his body with this talent. While the exact nature of this has never been pinned down (and various attempts to explain it have contradicted one another), Peter is sometimes shown to have barbed hairs or bristles similar to those of real spiders which extend or retract through his skin. At one point, it was suggested that his ability to adhere to surfaces was due to the fact that he could create a field of static electricity around his body. This posited explanation became crucial in his fight against the villain Electro, who used his powers of electricity to nullify Spider-man's "sticking power."
He is super-strong, allowing him to lift 10 tons, or more under stress. The muscles in his legs have developed to the point where he can jump the distance of several city blocks in a single bound, or five stories straight up. Another aspect of his physical prowess is his superhuman agility and amplified reflexes. This allows him to outmaneuver foes and to dodge automatic gunfire.
His bodily tissues are substantially more durable and resistant to impact or trauma than an ordinary human, making it more difficult to injure him (although he is not bulletproof). His recovery time from injury is somewhat faster than that of an ordinary human, although not nearly as much as those with true healing factors. He can also recover from poisons, but he is not immune to natural diseases. His vision also lost its myopia as a result of the spider bite.
Apart from his physical abilities, Peter has prodigious aptitude in the physical sciences. In the comics, he has a facility for chemistry and physics, and later pursues a graduate degree in biochemistry from Empire State University. He has an eerie seventh sense known as his 'spider-sense'. This alerts him to any immediate danger, whether he can see it or not. It is through this spider-sense that he is able to track the tracers he sometimes plants on his foes. It can, however, be beaten - Carnage and Venom are undetectable by it, and Norman Osborn once exposed him to a gas that robbed him of this ability, and thus left him vulnerable.
Following the particularly harrowing events ''Disassembled'' and ''The Other'', Peter gained some other powers - during a fight with Morlun, he regressed into a spider-like creature, and retained the ability to fire poison-coated 'stingers' from his forearms in times of great stress, and; he can mentally communictae with arthropods. He was then presented with a new costume developed by Tony Stark, which allows him to glide and extend three mechanical 'spider-walkers' from his back. Stark claimed that they were too delicate to use in combat, but Peter has already grasped this.
History/Background: Peter Parker was only young when his parents were killed in a tragic plance crash that left him an orphan. His Aunt May and Uncle Ben immediately adopted him, and he grew up as a bookish schoolboy that was constantly bullied and excelled in his lessons - especially science. Peter was an honor student, and his teachers always thought very highly of him. He always came prepared for class, and completed all of his asignments. The other students , however, had little time for a know-it-all like puny Peter. The girls thought he was too quiet, and the boys considered him a wimp. Peter was extremely shy, and some of his classmates misinterpreted his silence for snobbery. He had trouble making friends, but never stopped trying. He often invited other students to join him at science exhibits or monster movies, but they usually responded with ridicule, and almost never asked him to join them.
Things at school didn't improve when he began wearing glasses; Peter had less-than-average strength levels for a boy of his age and suffered from a phobia of heights. He buried himself in books, and, together with his uncle, developed a love for comic books. He dreamt of being a costumed adventurer like Captain America, striking fear into the hearts of criminals. This wish was granted when he was bitten by a radioactive spider at a science fair. He soon found himself exhibiting superhuman powers; he constructed himself web shooters and made a costume, becoming...the Amazing Spider-Man! But tragedy struck when Uncle Ben was killed by a thief that Peter had had the chance to stop just hours before his death. Strengthened by Ben's motto, "Great power comes with great responsibility!", Peter became the costumed hero he had always wanted to be.
Peter gradually became more confident and his social popularity grew. He moved out of his aunt's house and bought himself an apartment in the city, living with Harry Osborn. He fell in love with the beautiful Gwen Stacy, but she was snatched away from him in a tragic encounter with the Green Goblin, who was subsequently presumed dead for many years. When he finally settled down and married Mary Jane Watson, he discovered that he may be merely a clone of the real Peter Parker. He gave up his superhero identity for a while, and Ben Reilly, the 'real' Peter, took over. Peter and Mary Jane, meanwhile, moved away and MJ became pregnant. Peter and Ben were eventually pulled back together again when Harry Osborn was transformed into the Green Goblin. Although Harry eventually came to his senses, Ben Reilly was killed. As his body crumbled into dust, Peter realised that Ben was the clone after all. Mary Jane had a miscarriage and Peter was pushed back into heroing. Although their relationship has had many twists and turns, they are still together.
Peter battled the immortal Morlun, as well as combating a deadly, incurable disease, and emerged with new powers (described in the section of the same name). He has sided with Iron Man in the Registration Act conflict, although is doubting this decision heavily.
Sample Post: "With great power comes great responsibility..."
The oh-so-familiar words resounded through Peter Parker's head as he gazed out upon New York, the magnificent spires towering overhead his apartment in Stark Towers. With an audible exhale, he turned from the view and plopped down on the sofa, bringing his hands to his face and pressing his fingers against his skin. His gaze fell to the mask positioned on the coffee table, its empty reflective eyepieces glaring at their owner.
He was pondering a decision that most definitely would send shockwaves tearing through his life. It could make his world perfect, or completely destroy it, in just a single motion. A motion he had made so many times before. The motion that returned him to his human form, that completed the transformation and held the barrier between Peter Benjamin Parker and Spider-Man.
"Mary Jane..." he murmured, and rose to his feet, resuming his pacing. "Aunt May..."
I've got so much to lose...
