Cap stepped downstairs, knowing Logan and Cage were at his back. He was tensed and ready- with all the sensors on them, he didn't expect to catch the other New Avengers offguard. Even so, it was still a shock to the senses when he saw them. Peter Parker... Cap had known him for a long time now. Spider-Man, once one of the greatest friends Cap had known, though recently he had more and more become Iron Man's toady. It had been a pleasure to work on a team with him at last. And now... as he wore his new suit, more deadly than ever... they might have to fight him. Jessica Drew... she had been Spider-Woman on and off, but she had always been a faithful friend and good to have in a tight spot. Her SHIELD connections had gotten them very far with the New Avengers. Now she stood defiant against freedom and democracy Bob... ah, old Bob. The Sentry..... the most powerful member of the team. He reminded Cap of Thor, in many ways- in GOOD ways... loyal, steadfast, devoted to what he was doing, the Sentry was the most powerful friend one could hope for. Mentally Cap was already strategizing how to take him down. And Tony. Tony Stark For years, Cap's greatest friend. They had sparred before, they knew each other's strengths and weaknesses almost by heart due to friendly training sesssions, they had been like brothers, comrades in arms. And now they stood irreconsilably divided, each of them so stubborn, so convinced of their own rightness that they were tearing the New Avengers apart. Cap couldn't help but look at his old friend with his mouth slightly open. How far they had come, how dreadfully far. Never had he imagined it would come to this. He looked across at both his team-mates. Cage, good old Luke Cage, former hero for hire, now a trustworthy companion- the most loyal person cap had ever known, and someone who could be relied on in any situation. Logan, tough old Logan, whom Cap had known longer than any of the other superheroes... since way back in the days of the War... who could bre relied on to never ever give an inch, to fight with fierce berserker rage. Those two at least, would stand by him. Having taken stock of everything, he stepped down forwards, his eyes scanning his opponents. "Hello Tony. Long time no see." OOC: We will NPC Spider-Woman as she is nonactive

Peter tensed, and reached up to his mask. Roughly removing it and tucking it under his belt, he locked his gaze onto that of Captian America's and placed a hand of his shoulder. From beside him, Jessica rippled with anxiety, pushing back a stray lock of hair.
"Cap...Steve," he murmured. "Please, don't make it comet ot his." Peter turned his eyes to Tony, silently pleading with him. Jessica stood completely still, attempting to restrain her nervousness.

"Why? Why, Steve?"
Iron Man's filtered voice wasn't able to convey the raw emotion that he felt for the Captain. He had fought with him, fought for him, but now...would he have to fight against him?
"Why?"

"Don't..." Steve's voice nearly cracked, he shook off Peter's arm. "Don't try to blame this sorry mess on me. What I'm doing, what Logan and Luke are doing... it's what we should all be doing." His eyes pleaded with Iron Man's glowing slits. "It doesn't have to be this way, Tony. It's not too late."

"It is too late, Steve. It's too late to save those kids in Stamford. It's too late to save Manhattan. I know that wasn't you, Steve. You would never do that. But do you think S.H.I.E.L.D. believe me? No. You're a fugitive to them, Steve. You're a criminal to them. They want to lock you up. Steve, you're breaking the law of your country. Why?"

"It doesn't have to be this way," Peter insisted softly, shaking his head vigorously. "Can't we just sit down and talk about it with a nice cup of tea?"
Typical male, using humour as a defence mechanism, Jessica thought wryly. "Peter's right. It shouldn't have come to this."

"Or you could turn yourself in."
Heads turned to Sentry as he talked, and he could tell they were questioning this approach. He would to, if he wouldn't have had said it himself.
"Turn yourself in, and SHIELD will take it easy on you. If you turn yourself in, there won't be a fight...we won't have to fight."
With that Sentry put his hands on his hips as his cape swayed, waiting for the response of the group.

With that Sentry put his hands on his hips as his cap swayed, waiting for the response of the group. Cage knew that this was the moment. This was the moment where he had to realize just why he was doing this. He dove into his thoughts, into his life, and finally came up with something. "Look," said Cage, "I know why doin' this. For one, I've always been a rebel. Starting from the day I broke out of that prison after being falsey accused. I've never been some god damn cop. I'm a free man, and I want to continue to be one." He turned towards Spider-Man. "Parker. Don't you love MJ? I know I love Jessica Jones. Do you really want to risk her life? That's another reason I'm doin' this."

"If you loved her so much, Luke, then you wouldn't be out running from the law. You would do the right, responsible, thing. Instad of acting childish."
Sentry let the last word sting. Even if this turned to a fight he could hold his own. Hopefully he'd be able to keep it from that.

'Hey bub they only thing childish here is your stupid law, if breaking it means we keep our freedom...then you can stick your law up your ar...'
Logan stopped himself, it was the time and the place but up untill last week he and bob had been team mate, they had almost been friends.
Logan turned and turned back, he was nervous and weary...
'Bob, you have no idea what this laws going to do....no New Avengers, no heroes...its the wild west again.'
Logan paused
'No one to save you!'

((OOC: How comes Jess is pro here but anti in the comics? Are we gonna stick with pro for her?))
Peter couldn't help but wince as Luke Cage spoke the name of his wife. Technically, it could be said that he was using emotional blackmail to get at the wallcrawler. Jessica exhaled audibly, her eyes narrowing in disapproval. Such underhand tactics, intentional or not, seemed unlike the bulshy brick formerly called Power Man. Neither Spider spoke as Sentry and WOlverine aired their views.
"What are you talking about, Wolveirne?" Jess demanded. "There will still be heroes, there will still be New Avengers...I thought your dispute with the Act was that it violated your privacy. Heroes will still exist...they will just be government lackeys." She knew her tone and her varying choice of words would bemuse the other heroes, but that was fine by her.

"Logan, there's no need to worry about anyone saving me. I'm a big boy and can take perfectly good care of myself. What about you?"
He stared right into Logan's dark eyes.
"How long do you think you'll evade death before it eventually gets you? I'd be willing to bet you're on your last nine lives. Wouldn't you want to be under government protection, living a nice life when that happens, instead of being on the run? Besides, I lost count of how old you are. Got to be nearing two hundred, right?"

'Think your funny bub? Think your god damn funny? When you ever fight for your freedom, fight for your country...huh, bub? The government can't register me, can't control me...i'm my own man.'
Wolverine stood forward, primed and ready for the fight...he could smell the fear coming from the Sentry, he was scared
'You know why there won't be any New Avengers, huh? Its 'cos it could stand and fight next to a coward...but don't get me wrong, i'd fight against one!'

"Steve?"
Still, the Captain said nothing, only his gaze returning Iron Man's questions.
"Steve...I'm not going to start a fight..."
He motioned to where Logan was mouthing off, making fun of his compatriots.
"But if it comes to it, Steve, I'll sure as hell end it."
